Anyone whose seen the vast range of novelty Monopoly sets would have no doubt that the marketing of the game is enslaved by fashion – but this variant makes the unpredictability of fashion a part of the game itself.  Who says Monopoly can’t be a horror game? A very different style of Monopoly. Here’s a take on Monopoly that makes the Railway Stations good for something other than just collecting rents! First of all, just let me apologise: some of you, based on this title, will be expecting something a little more in the vein of The Wire, and I regret to report that this is not that. No, this is a game it’s still possible to win. Continue reading Variopoly game: The War on Drugs This particular take on the game changes the urbanisation that characterises Monopoly to something a little more rural in nature. Think of it as a special July 4 celebration – turning America’s game into something that more closely reflects the ‘real’ America so beloved of conservatives. This is a variation of Monopoly that combines it with Chess. Both games get a little bent in the process, and although winning both games isn’t the only way to win, it’s pretty close. Like Chess, it’s only a two-player game. Okay, I feel it’s time to be more vicious. Here’s a variant that actually makes the capitalism of Monopoly a little redder in tooth and claw. In honour of my home state going to the polls tomorrow, here’s a fun way to add a little democracy to your Monopoly game. A minor variation this week – just a changed victory condition. This week, a variant with a ticking clock – although that’s not all that’s ticking. The Mad Bomber variant of Monopoly is ideal for a shorter than usual game… Welcome to the first of what will be many, many variants for Monopoly.
