Bryan Adam’s Heaven

  • Type: Heaven, presumably located in This World.
  • Origin: Bryan Adams’ Heaven
  • Admission: Bryan Adams and his ‘baby’

A Heaven that seems to have lasted for a number of years (at least, so long as you ignore all the other songs on the album – particularly ‘Run To You’ and ‘One Night Love Affair’), but a rather small one. Probably no larger than, say, a single bed.

Ghostly existence

  • Type: This World
  • Origin: millions of ghost stories
  • Admission: variable, but primaily those who died with things unfinished (especially vengeance)

There’s a million reasons to become a ghost, but only one way: you have to die.

Once you’ve died, if you’re determined to be a ghost, you better hope that you felt very very passionately about something while you were alive, and that you left it unfinished at your death. This is most likely revenge – far and away the most common motive for becoming a ghost – but it might also be due to the simple failure to realise that one has died, or because you want your true love who survived you to find happiness with someone else (i.e. someone else who is also alive).

Of course, being a ghost is no bed of roses – you will have to deal with exorcists, the eventual death and destruction of the people, places and objects that care about, and, in some versions, fading away into a state of amnesia and eventually complete non-existence.

RoboCop

  • Type: This World
  • Origin: the Robocop Trilogy
  • Admission: strictly at the discretion of Omni Consumer Products

Bad enough that you’re a cop or a criminal in the decaying urban wasteland that is Detroit of the all-too-near future. Still, you’ve probably been sufficiently inured to losing your dignity in life not to worry too much about what happens to you after death.

Which is good, because what happens after death is that OCP uses your body and brain to hang their cybernetic police officer RoboCop off of, and you get to wander around Detroit enforcing the law, but unable to touch the real criminals, who run the very same corporation that refuses to let you rest in peace – and whom you are owned by.

Fortunately for you, there are loopholes. It can be hard to find them, though.
