So, I’m sure I’m not the only person to have thought of this one. Probably the first time they watched the episode, same as me
In the third season episode “Exogenesis”, we’re introduced to the Vindrizzi, a race of alien parasites who claim that they’re on a mission to record pretty much everything.
Uh huh. Suuuuuuure they are.
The Vindrizzi bear more than a passing resemblance to the Kergillian aliens whose secret invasion of Al Amarja began in the twentieth century. Are we supposed to think that this is a coincidence? That there is no connection between the two races? I think not.
Now, there are two ways to interpret it. One is that the Vindrizzi lied to Marcus and Franklin – they really are out to take over the universe, although they know that they’re still very weak – particularly with the Shadow War a’brewing. In which case, assume that they’re exactly like the Kergillians, with maybe a little more tactical savvy.
On the other hand, maybe they were being honest after all – in which case the Kergillian invaders are no doubt some corrupt dissident faction of the Vindrizzi.
In either the time period of Over The Edge or of Babylon 5, this is a crossover that’s going to make things very confusing for the players.
No doubt the Shadows have agents on Al Amarja, seeking to turn that situation to their advantage. (Perhaps the Vorlons have agents there too – could it be that the Glugs are actually genetically engineered Vorlon creations?). The Pharoahs are no doubt pulling the strings behind the Psi Corps and Clark’s administration. And perhaps the Sommerites eventually evolved into the Foundationers.
There’s more, but you get the idea – the point of intersection between the two settings is the prevalence of conspiracy in both. All you need to do is tie the various conspiracies together, and you’ve got a ready made game right there.
