About

Welcome to The Centre Cannot Hold, the blog of Loki Carbis. For those of you who don’t already know me, I am a highly opinionated politics nerd and pop-culture fan. (Or you can look here.) The content you’ll find on this site largely attests to those traits – and if you’re curious, there’s more to be found, both on the Web and in print.

The site takes its name from one of the most well-remembered lines of William Butler Yeats’ poem The Second Coming, and also serves as a demonstration of precisely that point (the closest thing to a centre possessed by this blog – aside from this very page – is the diverse material filed under Random Content).

That said, there is a variety of content that can be accessed from the Navigation box (right) which is more or less static – it does get modified, but only on an as needed basis. In addition, there are also two daily features and a handful of weekly ones that regularly feature on this blog:

Daily Features:

  • The Rock ‘n’ Roll History of the WorldThis day in history, as recorded in popular music.
  • Random ContentThis is where what might be classified as general content can be found – since they’re kind of many and varied, I suggest that for more details about these you check out the link, which goes into greater detail about the various sub-categories I’ve filed under Random Content.

Weekly Features:

  • Weekly Updates (Mondays) — lists all new and revised content for the week for the entire site, incuding all the content not covered below.
  • Fictions (Every day but Friday and Saturday) — original fiction by me, either a short story or new excerpt from a longer work in progress. There are currently several different stories in progress on this site – I’ll try not to lean too hard on any one of them.
  • Pharmacopoeia Fantastica (Tuesdays) — the dictionary of fictional and imaginary drugs.
  • The Truth About Melbourne (Wednesdays) — uncovering the history of Melbourne as it should have been, one suburb at a time.
  • Political (Thursdays) — Commentary on current events in Australian or world politics or more general pieces about particular issues. Often but not always a humourous take on things.
  • Crossing Over (Fridays) — a great chain of crossovers between various fictional worlds, primarily from a roleplaying point of view, interspersed with other, more random crossovers.
  • Thinking About Comics (Fridays) — Analysis, reviews, continuity and occasional WTFs.
  • 1001 Afterlives to Visit After You Die (Saturdays) — the next logical step after all those books of 1001 whatevers to experience before you die.
  • Starman Annotations (Sundays) — issue by issue annotations of one of the best books DC Comics ever did.
  • Gaming (Sundays) — variants and alternatives for games of various kinds – new and different uses for, among others, Chess, Monopoly and Lego Heroica.

If you’re wanting to follow this site via RSS, you’ll want to check out the options at the Feeds page.
